Don't Miss Brandi Carlile's "The Story"

This is the beginning of a series I am going to be calling "Don't Miss It!" where I will be trying to bring to your attention a song, a movie, a talented musician, or band, or anything that some of you may have missed because it was buried under the massive morass of media pop culture. This first installment is about Brandi Carlile and her song "The Story" which luckily has received a good deal of promotion and air play, but still hasn't received the notoriety it deserves in my opinion. It is a moving ballad about finally finding your soulmate, and, as Cat Stevens would say, "the journey" through one's life. Brandi Carlile is kind of a combination of Janis Joplin, and Janis Ian, with a little Katie Melua sprinkled in, and no, she's not related to Belinda Carlisle of the Go-go's. (If you don't know who Katie Melua is that might be a good idea for a future installment of "Don't Miss it!") Anyways, what I'm trying to say is Brandi is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, and a little bit folk, and well...a little bit everything...so Don't Miss It!
The Story (Album Version) by Brandi Carlile on Grooveshark

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true...I was made for you

I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
Yeah you do and I was made for you

You see the smile that's on my mouth
Is hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what I've been through but you do
And I was made for you...
