Well, apparently my friend Dustin the Republican is not the only one who doesn't know who the hell Bob Dylan is. "(Associated Press) Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in a New Jersey shore community when a resident called to report someone wandering around the neighborhood." (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/14/bob-dylan-stopped-by-cops_n_260192.html ) Bob Dylan, who was named by Time magazine as one of the most influential people of the 20th century, is apparently not a household name with some of these young whipper-snappers. Good grief, what a failure of our American educational system. But I digress...
When we need words of wisdom who do we turn to? Well, Jesus is a very busy man, so you can try to get in touch with him (good luck!) if you like, but I don't know if that is happening. The next person you would turn to for wisdom, I guess is Yoda, but he's a muppet, so I don't know if that's really a good idea. And there is also Dr. Phil, but he will probably just yell at you. However, someone who you CAN turn to is the greatest American songwriter now living Bob Dylan. Here, are some DEEP THOUGHTS from Bob Dylan in a 60 minutes interview:

Bob Dylan's thoughts on a little thing the kids are calling "destiny." Bob Dylan:
"It’s a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your mind of what you're about will come true. It’s kind of a thing you kind of have to keep to your own self because it’s a fragile feeling and you put it out there somebody will kill it and so it's best to keep that all inside."
The film "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" directed by John Cameron Mitchell, also does a good job of wrestling with the question of "what is destiny?" but Tommy Gnosis seems to have a different take than Bob Dylan on the existence of this "destiny" business. Is there really a some sort of divine purpose behind all the trials and tribulations we go through in life, or is it just a cosmic crap shoot?

"you think that luck has left you there/ but maybe there's nothing up in the sky, but air/ there's no mystical design/ no cosmic lover pre-assigned/ there's nothing you can find, that cannot be found"...from the song "Wicked Little Town" (Tommy Gnosis version)
Well, there you have it folks. Everything you wanted to know about destiny but were afraid to ask. Yet another mystery of the universe unraveled here at http://jimmyfungus.com. Once again, God bless you and thank you for your support.
